The Repair Tool blueprint unlocks after scanning 3 broken Repair Tool fragments in the world. Three reliable locations are within swimming distance of the Lifepod — Chap’s Base to the southeast, a shipwreck to the south, and a hangar wreck to the northeast. This guide covers each location with navigation cues and the crafting requirements after the unlock.
Requirements
Before searching for Repair Tool fragments, make sure you have:
| Requirement | How to Get It |
|---|---|
| Scanner | Craft at Fabricator — 2 Titanium + 2 Quartz + 1 Basic Battery |
| Survival Multitool | Craft at Fabricator — 3 Titanium |
| Basic Battery (spare) | Craft at Fabricator — 2 Copper + 2 Acidic Raion Pouches |
The Scanner is essential — you need it to scan every fragment. The Survival Multitool is needed to collect Acidic Raion Pouches for spare batteries. If you have not crafted these yet, see the Scanner to Habitat Builder guide first.
Fragment Locations
Fragment 1 — Chap’s Base (Southeast)
- Direction: Southeast of the Lifepod
- Landmark: A tall stone pillar with a ring-shaped hole at its base
- Entrance: Swim into the ring-shaped hole and look northwest for a hatch with a red light. This is the entrance to Chap’s abandoned base. NOA will also direct you here early in the story for Chap’s blackbox.
- Fragment: Sitting on a desk/table inside the main room — scan it with your Scanner.
Fragment 2 — Southern Shipwreck (South)
- Direction: Due south of the Lifepod, across a deep gap
- Landmark: A massive metal shipwreck resting on the ocean floor near rocky cliffs
- Entrance: Find a small door on the south side of the hull. Go inside and turn left to find a cracked elevator shaft — drop through the broken floor to the lower level.
- Fragment: On a sofa/couch in the corner of the lower room, near a “Just Keep Swimming” poster.
Fragment 3 — Northeast Hangar Wreck (Northeast)
- Direction: Northeast of the Lifepod
- Landmark: A large ruined structure / wreck
- Entrance: Swim underneath the structure and look for a half-open door or floor opening leading into a large hangar / storage area.
- Fragment: On the floor next to a secured door by a window.
- Bonus: This hangar also contains Processor, Bioreactor, and Tadpole fragments — scan them while you are here.
Scan Checklist
- Equip the Scanner on your hotbar
- Head southeast to Chap’s Base — scan Fragment 1 on the desk
- Swim south to the Southern Shipwreck — scan Fragment 2 on the sofa
- Go northeast to the Hangar Wreck — scan Fragment 3 by the locked door
- Check the Fabricator — the Repair Tool recipe should now appear under the Tools tab
- Gather materials and craft the Repair Tool
You need 3 separate targets to complete the unlock.
Crafting the Repair Tool
After scanning all 3 fragments, the Recipe appears in the Fabricator under the Tools tab.
Recipe
| Material | Count | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Titanium Ingot | 1 | Craft from 2 Titanium at the Fabricator |
| Wiring Kit | 1 | Craft from 2 Silver at the Fabricator |
| Basic Battery | 1 | Craft from 2 Copper + 1 Acidic Raion Pouch |
| Sulfur | 1 | Found in high-temperature zones (see below) |
Sulfur and Heat Tolerance
Sulfur is the hardest material to obtain for the Repair Tool. It is found in high-temperature zones to the east. These areas are dangerous without Heat Tolerance Adaptation, which comes from the Sonic Resonator progression path.
If the Repair Tool recipe is visible but you cannot craft it yet due to missing Sulfur, prioritize the Sonic Resonator and Heat Tolerance route before heading east. See the Sulfur resource page for detailed location guidance.
What the Repair Tool Unlocks
Once crafted, the Repair Tool lets you:
- Repair the Tadpole submarine and other vehicles
- Fix base structures and system damage
- Open secured doors inside wrecks (for example, the sealed door in the Northeast Hangar Wreck leads to the Rebreather blueprint)
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Why It Happens | How to Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Only scanning 1–2 fragments | You need exactly 3. Check your Scanner progress pop-up to confirm the count. | Visit all 3 locations above. |
| Recipe not appearing after scanning 3 | Rare — double-check that you scanned 3 different targets. | Return to the Fabricator and check the Tools tab. |
| Unable to locate the entrance | The landmarks can look similar from a distance. | Use the Lifepod as your compass reference. |
| Missing Sulfur for crafting | Sulfur is in hot zones, not near the Lifepod. | Follow the Sulfur page guide for heat-zone navigation. |
Next Steps
With the Repair Tool crafted, your next goals are:
- Repair your Tadpole if it has taken damage during exploration
- Unlock sealed rooms in wrecks for additional blueprints and loot
- Head back to the Northeast Hangar Wreck — use the Repair Tool on the sealed door to access the Rebreather blueprint
- Follow NOA objectives for new areas and unlocks
